Weight lifting basics

I have just started weight lifting to add some bulk back so I don't end up scrawny (I have lost 40 lbs in the last 4 months) and I have never done any weight lifting. How much weight should I start with? I am using one of the plans that has been good so far, but I am just not sure how hard to push myself.

I have been doing some basic weight lifting lately and having lots of fun with it. Getting out into the gym is interesting since you get to see different people and their attitudes towards weight lifting.

Start with with a weight you can lift easily and do 6 reps in each of 2 sets. After 1 week add a third set. After 3 weeks up your reps to 10 per set. After another 3 weeks start by adding 5% per lift per 2 week period. That will get you a comfortable start.
